Western Australian Thematic Airborne
Image Map Series
Following the very successful joint
launch of their Airborne Multispectral Thematic Image Maps at the Celtic Club, West Perth
last November, AGARSS and Mackay & Schnellman are both pleased to announce the
addition of the Menzies and Kalgoorlie 1:250,000 map sheets to their archive of
"off-the-shelf" products. Coming soon will be coverage of the Laverton, Edjudina
and Kurnalpi map sheets.
The Thematic Map sets comprise digital mineral indices derived from
archival Geoscan Airborne Multi-Spectral data which have been geo-referenced and can be
incorporated into any digital Geographic Information System (GIS). Indices for
iron-oxides, clay content, carbonate and silica comprise the standard set and can be
viewed individually either as grey scale or density sliced images or combined in various
red-green-blue (RGB) colour displays for interpretive mapping purposes. The sets are
produced on CD-rom for ease of assimilation into customer GIS databases and come with an
additional RGB 3 band image, equivalent spectrally to a Landsat TM 7-4-1RGB image, useful
for both geological and structural interpretations.

The combination of specific mineral indices and
much higher spatial resolution than is possible with satellite data at prices comparable
to those for Landsat TM imagery has attracted a lot of attention for explorers interested
both in mapping geology and regolith as well as those who wish to use the data for
exploration targeting.
Map sets can be purchased for standard map sheet areas at standard
scales ranging upwards from 1:25,000 to 1:250,000 or can be customised to meet customers
specific tenement holdings. Furthermore, other mineral indices such as talc or sericite
can also be produced upon request.
The product offers explorers a very powerful, high resolution base data
set that can be tailored directly to their specific spatial and mineralogical needs.
Furthermore, the costly purchasing and time consuming specialist processing and
interpretation. of entire raw digital data sets is avoided, the geologist being supplied
at the outset with meaningful geological information.
