ARCOPUNCO EPITHERMAL GOLD PROJECT! tn_HypInExp_gif.gif (5505 bytes) New survey opportunities for 1998!

3rd International Gold Symposium, Lima EXPOMIN, Santiago

Are there more to be found? Can airborne hyperspectral data advance your exploration?

The Arcopunco gold project located south of Huancavelica is owned by Cia. de Minas Buenaventura and was discovered in 1997 as a result of the owner’s forward looking decision to invest in airborne hyperspectral technology.

The company contracted New York based GER to carry out data acquisition over approximately 5,000 square kilometres of prospective ground south of Huancavelica. Through A.G.A.R.S.S., Buenaventura also invested in their own in-house computer hardware and software and the training of their own personnel in hyperspectral remote sensing data processing, analysis and application to exploration. The combination of new data coupled with the local knowledge of Buenaventura’s exploration team and the remote sensing expertise provided by A.G.A.R.S.S. led to the identification of this exciting prospect.

Detailed mapping of alteration minerals

Large parts of coastal and cordilleran Peru and Chile as well as altiplano Bolivia, the Argenitne Andes and Patagonia are highly suited to exploration by high resolution hyperspectral data. Whereas satellite (Landsat TM) data can provide an excellent regional focusing tool, the hyperspectral data allows the explorer to rapidly identify specific styles of hydrothermal alteration and to map the distiribution of key minerals such as alunite, pyrophyllite, kaolinite and sericite for example. This information can rapidly and cost-effectively focus geochemical exploration and drilling, especially in remote and difficult terrains.

A number of sensing instruments available

Bob Agar, A.G.A.R.S.S. Managing Director, organised both previous airborne spectral campaigns in South America. A world recognised expert in the field of airborne remote sensing applied to mineral exploration, he is in contact with all commercial suppliers of data, of which there are now a number of additional alternatives to Geoscan and GER. We can help all users find the most suitable instrument for their needs and schedules.

To discus your exploration survey needs this month, visit us at the 3rd International Gold Symposium in Peru or at EXPOMIN in Chile.
